Eno Osagie Kingsley, Born on the 12th December 1973, in Kano State- Nigeria, popularly known by his stage name Winning Jah, He is a Nigerian reggae musician,song writer, multiple instrumentalist and a Philanthropist. He was the lead vocalist of Emababa Reggae Band in the early 80’s. The group was then famous for covering legendary Bob Marley’s songs, Winston Foster and Peter Tosh, to win John “John player Gold leaf Awards”, for best reggae new acts 1989, he later went solo after the group disbanded same year.Subsequently he released his critically acclaimed debut album “Big Man” under the imprint of his parents indie label “Enorecords”.Nigerian and International newspapers, including Africa reggae fans called him Nigerian King of reggae.
Early Life & music career:
Winning was born on 12 December 1973, to Mr. and Mrs. Eno Osagie. He grew up in Kano state and later relocated to Benin City. He attended Eweka Grammar School Benin, and later enrolled at Immaculate Conception College, to later got admission into University of Benin, where he studied Business Administration. Winning started his performing arts career as a street singer and a Djembe player. Winning Jah has cited Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Culture, Peter Tosh, Yellowman, Lucky Dube, Alpha Blondy, Baba Sissoko as his key musical influences. In an interview with Vanguard Newspaper, he said he references social issues in his music. He described his reggae beats as Emababa reggae, meaning “Toy beat”.
In January 2013, after a long vacation from the music industry, Winning released a single titled “Djembe Jazz” . The instrumental, which is a fusion of Pop and Fuji, was recorded and mastered by an Italian Sanremo music festival award winner,music composer, and a producer, Mario Scrivano.
On July 6, 2015, Winning released the video and audio for “To Whom It May Concern” featuring Naxis DG.The song was used as means of campaign against social ills, and frequent fraudulent from various international NGO’s, in collaboration with UNICEF UK” , the song features guitar lines from legendary Andrea Allione of Italian famous Jazzist “Paolo Conte“. The music video for “To Whom It May Concern”, was shot in two west African countries and one European country, namely Republic of Mali, Cotonou and Italy by Andrea media, subtitled in French and Italian. The song peaked #1 on reverberation Italian national chart for months and turned a sort of anthem for Social campaigns, fundraising sound track in Italy, Ireland and most countries in Africa by local and international NGOs.
In February 2016, Winning Jah signed a record deal with VP Records arms VPAL Music, which he released his second studio album of 11 tracks, entitled “Nouveau Business” alongside a controversial single audio and video entitled “CKRIT”. It was positively reviewed by music critics.The song gained rotational airplay’s on radio stations same year, unluckily he received chains of email and phone call threat from various religious fundamentalists and political thugs, Winning and his management were obliged to apologise on a Nigerian renowned Newspaper Daily-times, explaining to authorities why Marijuana needs a global legalisation.
In 2017, he released a 15 track album “Africa Inside Me” featuring Stephen Marley on one of the remixed track “Now I Know (Made In Africa).
In 2018, Winning emerged on his Europe to Africa music concert tour, tagging it with his upcoming album’s title “Message”. In his interview with Leadership Newspaper Nigeria, he unveiled the album will be officially released after rounding up his tour dates.
He is notable for nationwide PWDs campaigns,he mainly spoke about disable rights in Africa. He serially donated thousands urine sacs, to support persons with severe paralysis , orthopaedic kits, X-ray machines, to national hospitals, clinics and ( PWD) institutions in Republic of Mali, Republic of Benin, Federal Republic of Nigeria and others parts of Africa. In early 2000, statistically , 35,000 men and women in Nigeria received micro finance support, to empower local traders start up small scale business. He has conducted a national PWD annual conference “Ability in Disability” hosted by Aid People Change Naija (NGO). In 2016 he was honoured and endorsed as the brand ambassador of the Organisation.Winning is also the founder of Amc1d Projects International Onlus (NGO) , a non profit organisation with headquarters in Italy, also known by the acronym (A.M.C.1.D) an umbrella body of over 100 local Ngo’s globally.
